It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Aimee Ryan, PhD, to the position of Interim Deputy Executive Director/Deputy Chief Scientific Officer (DCSO) of the Rl-MUHC and Interim Head of Child Health Research at the MUHC, effective March 1, 2017.
Dr. Ryan brings invaluable scientific and administrative expertise and knowledge to her mandate. She received her B.Sc. from the University of Manitoba in 1985 and then completed her M.Sc. in Genetics and PhD in Biochemistry at Queen’s University in 1993. From there, Dr. Ryan went on to complete her postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Diego. She received a Career Development Award in the Biological Sciences from the Burroughs Wellcome Fund and joined McGill University and the RI-MUHC in 2000. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Departments of Human Genetics and Pediatrics.
Dr. Ryan has been very active at the RI-MUHC, having served as an elected member of the Management Committee of the former MCH site of the RI-MUHC and as a member of the RI-MUHC Redevelopment Planning Committee. Dr. Ryan also served as Chair of the Health and Safety Committee at the MCH site and chaired the Pediatric Studentship Committee for many years. In addition, she was a co-organizer of the New Faculty Boot Camp Training Sessions for the Society of Developmental Biology and is the Graduate Program Director in the Department of Human Genetics at McGill University.
As Interim DCSO of the Rl-MUHC and Head of Child Health Research at the MCH of the MUHC, Dr. Ryan will provide leadership and direction in the promotion of child health research at the MUHC. She will be responsible for the clinical and technological support of child health research activity and training. Dr. Ryan will work with Dr. Bruce Mazer, the Interim Executive Director and CSO of the RI-MUHC, to provide leadership in the development and integration of the long-term plan of the child health research at the Rl-MUHC.
