null Cannabis in Canada: What do we know? What can we expect?

On Nov. 30, some 200 people attended McGill’s academic conference on the imminent legalization of cannabis for recreational purposes. “Cannabis is not crack, but it’s not lettuce,” Dr. Marco Leyton, a Dept. of Psychiatry neuroscientist, told the audience during one session. Dr. Leyton, who is also a senior scientist at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre, said that while there are concerns over possible increase in addiction problems and in marijuana-related car accidents, some findings suggest cannabinoids might also reduce symptoms for people in opiate withdrawal and even help them quit.
