Research Focus

My research focuses on clinical studies in the areas of stroke prevention and acute management. This includes interventional (surgery), medical (drugs) or lifestyle approaches. We are actively involved in different clinical studies which involve the detection of specific causes of stroke (detection of cardiac problem such as atrial fibrillation), control of vascular risk factors (high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol), use of blood thinners and changes in lifestyle habits (smoking and other). Our studies are often done in collaboration with other centers either across Canada or at the international level. We are also presently involved in the establishment of a program which supports best practices in stroke care at the MUHC and will monitor different clinical indicators of quality of care in stroke management through a dedicated database.
