null Appointment of Dr. Simon Wing as Chair of the Research Program Council of the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC)

It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Simon Wing, MD, to the position of Chair of the Research Program Council of the RI-MUHC, effective April 1, 2015. In this role, Dr. Wing will build on the excellent foundation laid by the former chair, Dr. Bruce Mazer. We take this opportunity to thank Dr. Mazer for his valuable service to the research community in this capacity over two consecutive terms, since 2007.

Dr. Wing is a staff endocrinologist at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) and professor of medicine at McGill University.  Following medical studies and residency training at McGill, he completed postdoctoral fellowships at Harvard Medical School and the National Research Council Canada Biotechnology Research Institute.  He then returned to McGill University where his research program has focused on the role of the ubiquitin proteasome system in metabolism.  This research work has been recognized with his election to the American Society for Clinical Investigation.

Dr. Wing's clinical work is in diabetes and general endocrinology and he is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in these areas. From 2003-2011 he served as Director of Adult Endocrinology and Metabolism at McGill University and Director of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism in the Department of Medicine at the McGill University Health Centre. He was co-leader of the Endocrinology, Diabetes, Nutrition and Kidney Disease Axis at the RI-MUHC from 2005 to 2013 and is presently Director of the Experimental Therapeutics and Metabolism Program at the MUHC.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Wing to his new leadership role as Chair of the Research Program Council.
