My research focuses on distinct areas of behavioral and developmental neuroendocrinology. I have been examining the impact of steroid hormones on the central nervous system for several years, more specifically the effects of androgens on brain structure and behavior during the pubertal period. During my training, I expanded this research focus to include the examination of sex steroid receptor expression in postmortem human brain, and the effects of sex steroid receptor genotype on brain structure. My long-term goal is to move beyond the examination of steroid hormones in isolation and to focus my efforts on integrating the examination of steroid hormones with that of steroid receptor expression, neurotransmitter function, and clinically significant phenotypes such as premenstrual dysphoric disorder, postpartum depression and perimenopausal-related mood as well as anxiety disorders.
