Research Programs

Driven and inspired by investigators of the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), the restructuring from research axes into programs is rooted in our Research Strategic Plan. The proposal to the Canada Foundation for Innovation for new facilities included the creation of themes that would represent the scientific foci of research neighbourhoods, physical segments of the Centre for Translational Biology (CTB) at the Glen and Montreal General Hospital (MGH) sites. Our researchers have now articulated those themes in the form of full-blown interdisciplinary programs.

Bringing together a minimum of 15 investigators who identify with common themes across the three pillars of basic, evaluative and clinical research, each of the new RI-MUHC research programs was designed by its members. Each has been tailored to optimize existing strengths, create new synergies across and beyond the organization, and maximize opportunities afforded by the highly interactive new facilities at the Glen and the renovated facilities at the MGH site.

Brain Repair and Integrative Neuroscience Program

The Brain Repair and Integrative Neuroscience Program (BRaIN) draws upon the world-class research performed by its basic neuroscientists, neurologists, ophthalmologists, psychiatrists, neurosurgeons and population health/evaluative researchers at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC)...

Cancer Research Program

The Cancer Research Program (CRP) benefits from new state-of-the-art facilities to conduct basic research at the Centre for Translational Biology, clinical cancer research at the Centre for Innovative Medicine, and evaluative cancer research at the Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation...

Cardiovascular Health Across the Lifespan Program

The Cardiovascular Health across the Lifespan Program (CHAL) includes fundamental, clinical and evaluative research platforms. Basic research in this program focuses on the study of biomarkers, histopathology, genetics, translational genomics and genetic epidemiology...

Child Health and Human Development Program

The Child Health and Human Development Program (CHHD) was created after collective reflection in several key areas. Since early life events and factors have the potential to dictate lifelong human health, it is essential to increase our understanding of these factors...

Metabolic Disorders and Complications Program

The Metabolic Disorders and Complications Program (MeDiC), formerly called the Experimental Therapeutics and Metabolism Program (ETM), brings together a team of outstanding scientists who share the goal of developing new diagnostic tools, treatments and health policies for common and chronic metabolic disorders...

Infectious Diseases and Immunity in Global Health Program

The Infectious Diseases and Immunity in Global Health Program (IDIGH) unites expertise, resources and research strengths in infectious diseases, immunology and global health across three domains. It comprises 18 laboratory-based research groups at the Centre for Translational Biology, 16 groups with a focus on...

Injury Repair Recovery Program

The vision of the Injury Repair Recovery Program (IRR) is to provide leadership in research and development, resulting in breakthroughs in the management of personal injury and reduction of its socioeconomic burden...

Translational Research in Respiratory Diseases Program

The Translational Research in Respiratory Diseases Program (RESP) builds upon the success of the Meakins-Christie Laboratories and the Respiratory Epidemiology and Clinical Research Unit to further bring together basic, clinical, population health and outcomes researchers in both adult and pediatric medicine...
