Research Focus

Our ultimate goal is to better the lives of those with hearing challenges. Our research focuses on how the brain processes sound, examining the impact of hearing impairments and musical training on communication and emotional expression. Using advanced brain imaging and virtual reality technologies, we study the brain mechanisms of hearing loss and restoration, identify individual adaptation processes, and develop innovative rehabilitation strategies. We also explore the relationship between music and the brain, studying how listening to music and singing can have a positive impact on wellbeing and health across ages. A key innovation of our work involves using pharmaco-assisted therapies to enhance brain learning and adaptation, using drugs that could repair and regenerate damaged neural cells and connections. Internationally acknowledged, our lab has contributed to leading journals, presented in over 12 countries, and received global media attention.
