Public tours followed the journey of a cancer research sample at the Glen site
Nov. 19, 2019
Source: RI-MUHC. On November 13 the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) Foundation offered 350 members of the public a fascinating look “Behind the Scenes” at healthcare and research. Activities ranged from hands-on discovery of the role of liquid biopsies in cancer detection to testing the strength of your lungs and understanding why high blood sugar causes kidney disease.
The technology platforms at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) also opened their doors, hosting over 50 participants in an exclusive tour of the Glen site research facilities. To find out how this powerhouse of innovative technologies supports the work of researchers and helps accelerate biomedical research, visitors followed the path of a cancer research sample from platform to platform.
“We wanted to provide participants with firsthand experience of the cutting-edge research carried out at the RI-MUHC,” said Patrice Vaillancourt, manager of operations and platforms, “and meet some of our people who make these technologies work. So I was very happy to hear comments from visitors like, ‘I know how important research is for developing new treatments, but seeing the amazing instruments and learning what they can do from the people who work there makes it so much more real and interesting.’ ”
