Enhancing PICU Care Experiences for Children with Medical Complexity Children with medical complexity (CMC) constitute a medically fragile subgroup of children with special health care needs. They typically undergo repeated, long-stay paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admissions with successive health crises, often experiencing worsening health over time. Tensions may emerge between parent caregivers and staff regarding caretaking preferences, treatment goals, and expected outcomes. The findings of an interpretive descriptive study that explored the experiences of parent caregivers of CMC during PICU hospitalization will be presented by way of introducing a novel, mixed methods study that will use Experience-Based Co-Design to enhance patient and family-centred care for CMC in the PICU. Presenter: Janet Rennick, RN, MScN, PhD When: Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at noon Where: 5252 boul de Maisonneuve West, 3rd Floor (3B kitchen) Information: CORE 514-934-1934 ext. 48292 or Core.mailer@rimuhc.ca The presentation will be delivered in English. |
