Dr. Mohammadali Almasieh’s research focuses on the mechanisms behind axon degeneration. His work has uncovered some of the molecular mechanisms that cause axons to degenerate following injury. He recently authored a publication in the Journal of Neuroscience showing that these axonal degeneration mechanisms are slowed in rats with a specific genetic mutation. He and his co-authors also demonstrated how the mutation’s effects on degeneration can be reversed, as well as recreated in normal rats.
