Dr. Steven Paraskevas, Director of the Pancreas and Islet Transplant Program and RI researcher from the Experimental Therapeutics and Metabolism Program, was interviewed by the Montreal Gazette, CTV and Radio-Canada International to further discuss the advantages of the islet cell transplant therapy and the Islet Transplant Program. The MUHC wants to become a center of excellence for the procedure and to create a regional network for islet cell isolation and transplantation in eastern Quebec and the northeast United States.
Dr. Jean-Pierre Routy, MUHC hematologist and RI researcher from the Infectious Diseases and Immunity in Global Health Program was interviewed by Radio-Canada regarding a recent breakthrough in HIV research as part of the International AIDS Society Conference on HIV Pathogenesis, Treatment, and Prevention held in Vancouver last week.
Dr. Marina Klein, RI researcher from Infectious Diseases and Immunity in Global Health Program, was also interviewed by the medical news channel MedPage Today from the conference in Vancouver about an investigational drug combination aimed at hepatitis C that could had high cure rates in people co-infected with HIV.
Dr. Mark Ware, MUHC Pain specialist and an RI researcher from the Brain Repair and Integrative Neuroscience Program, was interviewed by Radio-Canada about his leading research in the field of medical cannabis and the Quebec Registry.
Dr. Momar Ndao, director of the National Center for Parasitology and RI researcher from the Infectious Diseases and Immunity in Global Health Program, was interviewed by Radio-Canada and Journal de Montréal on new research that suggests bed bugs can transmit a parasite that causes Chagas disease, which is more common in Latin America.
Dr. Geneviève Bernard, MCH neurologist and RI researcher from the Child Health and Human
Development Program, was interviewed by the Montreal Gazette and Global TV about a paper she published with an international research study that helped identified a new gene associated with a form of leukodystrophy – a deadly group of neurodegenerative diseases that affect one in 7,000 children and have no cure.

Dr. Vassilios Papadopoulos, RI-MUHC researcher in the Experimental Therapeutics and Metabolism Program, has been interviewed by Radio-Canada International and Journal de Montréal about his recent study showing that DINCH plasticizer, used as a phthalates alternative, exerts biological effects on metabolic processes in mammals. The study was published in the Journal Environmental Research.
Dr. Christine McCusker, MCH allergist and RI-MUHC researcher from the Translational Research in Respiratory Diseases Program, was interviewed by Le Devoir for a Dossier special on allergies. Her team at the Meakins-Christie Laboratories designed a potential vaccine that nudges the immune response away from developing allergies. The study was published in the journal Mucosal Immunology.
Dr. George Thanassoulis, MUHC director of preventive and genomic cardiology and RI-MUHC researcher from the Cardiovascular Health Across the Lifespan Program, was interviewed by the magazine L'Actualité about the use of statins treatments to prevent cardiovascular mortality and events.
Dr. Madhukar Pai, director of the Global Health Program at McGill University and RI-MUHC researcher from the Infectious Diseases and Immunity in Global Health Program, was cited in a New York Times' article (The Opinion Pages) about advancing TB test technology.
Dr. Mark Ware, MUHC director of Clinical Research of the Alan Edwards Pain Management Unit and RI-MUHC researcher from the Brain Repair and Integrative Neuroscience Program, was the guest on a phone-in on the CBC radio show BC Almanac (Vancouver) to give his comments on the Supreme Court of Canada's decision to allow medical marijuana users to consume marijuana and talk about the impact on research in the field.
Dr. Lesley Fellows, a neurologist and researcher at the Montreal Neurological Institute and the RI-MUHC, was interviewed by TVA, Journal de Montréal & Québec, Futurity US, Radio-Canada International, among others. She led a study, that was published in the Journal of Neuroscience, which cast some light on the brain mechanisms that support people's voting decisions.
Dr. Guy Rouleau, Director of the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital and RI-MUHC member, who collaborated with Dr. Alex Parker from UdeM, was interviewed by The Montreal Gazette on a study that focuses on the genetic causation of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and its relation to the immune system.
Dr. Alain Ptito was interviewed by The Montreal Gazette and Journal Métro. Dr. Ptito and his team have been awarded a major grant from the Canada Foundation for Innovation to advance their innovative work in the areas of brain injuries.

Dr. Patricia Tonin, Associate Leader of the Cancer Research Program at the CTB of the RI-MUHC, was interviewed by CBC News, CBC Radio One (88.5 FM) and Radio-Canada International about her recent findings published in the Journal of Ovarian Research.
The study she led, in collaboration with researchers from the CRCHUM and the JGH, advocates for genetic testing for all women with ovarian cancer based on a high frequency of carriers regardless of family history which is currently not the standard of care and official policy implemented in Quebec.

Dr. Silvia Rios Romenet, clinical research fellow at the Movement Disorders Clinics at The Neuro and MGH and Dr. Ron Postuma, researcher in neurosciences at the RI-MUHC and neurologist at The Neuro, received impressive media coverage locally and internationally for their study on tango and Parkinson's disease (PD). The study published in the April 2015 issue of Complementary Therapies in Medicine shows dancing the Argentine tango could have potential benefits for people at certain stages in the development of PD.
