Revising our understanding in light of two pandemics

Saleem Razack, MD, a member of the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), has co-authored a prize-winning article that suggests revising our understanding of professionalism in light of two pandemics: COVID-19 and racism. The article suggests that we focus on acting to right wrongs and on demonstrating solidarity with those impacted by racism.

Published in Perspectives on Medical Education, “Professionalism revisited during the pandemics of our time: COVID-19 and racism,” co-authored by Dr. Razack with colleagues Zareen Zaidi, MD, PhD, of the Florida College of Medicine and Arno K. Kumagai, MD, of the University of Toronto, was a winning article in the Best Commentary category among the 12th annual John A. Benson Jr., MD Professionalism Article Prizes announced recently by the ABIM Foundation.

Dr. Razack is director of the Office of Social Accountability and Community Engagement in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at McGill University and an associate investigator in the Child Health and Human Development Program at the RI-MUHC.
