Source: CATALIS. Why is clinical research important? What’s the benefit for patients? International Clinical Trials Day, on May 20, 2019, recognizes the commitment of all research professionals who believe in the importance of clinical trials in generating innovative treatments for Quebec’s patients and citizens.

On May 20, follow our social media pages and discover testimonials from research professionals from the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM), the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Sainte-Justine, the CHU de Québec-Université Laval and the Centre de recherche du CIUSSS de l'Estrie – CHUS (CRCHUS).

With its network of public and private partners, CATALIS develops tools, encourages private investment and supports the promotion of Quebec as a global leader in early-stage clinical research.

Clinical trials
Clinical trials provide scientific proof that a drug is effective, safe and of high quality for human use. They usually consist of four phases. CATALIS focuses its action on the early phases (I, II and II-III), i.e., trials that validate the safety and effectiveness of a drug on a small group of patients.

Early-stage clinical trials offer an opportunity to find potential treatments for patients with serious illnesses when standard therapies have failed.

With its state-of-the-art facilities and, in particular, the expertise of its internationally renowned clinical research teams, Quebec is the ideal location for those wanting not only to take part in the scientific validation of innovative therapies, but, more importantly, to bring the benefits of their work to Quebec’s patients and citizens.
