RI-MUHC researcher takes a leading role in several WHO initiatives

Theresa Gyorkos, PhD, was appointed in June 2022 to a World Health Organization (WHO) Working Group on the Prevention and Management of Anaemia, to advise the Strategic and Technical Advisory Group of Experts (STAGE) on Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health and Nutrition for an initial term of three years (2022-2025). This working group of international experts will engage STAGE members on the development of a global action plan and on matters related to addressing the global public health problem of anaemia.
A senior scientist in the Infectious Diseases and Immunity in Global Health Program at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), Theresa Gyorkos has a leading role in several other WHO activities. She chairs the Technical Advisory Group on Soil-transmitted Helminthiasis and Schistosomiasis Control and Elimination (2021-2023); is a member of the Strategic Technical Advisory Group for Neglected Tropical Diseases Working Group on Monitoring, Evaluation and Research (2020-2023); and directs a Pan American Health Organization/WHO Collaborating Centre on Research and Training on Parasite Epidemiology and Control (2019-2023). She conducts research at the Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation at the RI‑MUHC.
