null Progress on new platforms at the Glen: Bioinformatics, Biobank and CL3
|Set for a spring 2017 launch, the Bioinformatics Platform is taking shape under its new director, Dr. Jean-Baptiste Rivière. Joël Lafond-Lapalme, a bioinformatician, has been hired as manager. The new platform will mainly provide genomic-bioinformatic analysis. According to Dr. Rivière, this technology can be used in any research involving biological matter. With the help of Calcul Québec, a company specialised in advanced research computing, the project is now at the stage of organizing information storage and computer capacity. |The RI-MUHC Biobank Platform will soon house the first academic biorepository in Canada that employs robotics to handle up to 500,000 human tissue samples in a state-of-the-art freezer system. After discussions with Liconic and SNC-Lavalin Exploitation Inc., a timeline has been set for work in room E01.5050 at the Glen site of the Centre for Translational Biology. The renovations and installation should be completed by the end of March. Following two weeks of system integrity testing and recruitment of a manager, a spring launch is also planned for this platform.|
The Glen site Containment Level 3 (CL3) Platform, directed by Dr. Marcel Behr, was licensed by the Public Health Agency of Canada at the end of January.
