The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) will soon be filled with the sound of music.

Thanks to a generous gift by Angèle and Michal Kuzmicki, a classic Heintzman grand piano was installed today in the RI-MUHC Atrium at the Glen site. The installation was the brainchild of Dr. Rhian Touyz, Executive Director and Chief Scientific Officer of the RI-MUHC.

“Music is universal, and can be such a uniting force,” says Dr. Touyz. “We hope that the beautiful sounds of the piano will bring joy and inspiration to our community.”

The MUHC Foundation worked with the technical services team at the RI-MUHC to make this idea a reality.

“We are so pleased to know this piano will give comfort and joy to the wonderful researchers and staff of the Research Institute,” says Angèle. “We are looking forward to hearing the piano in the Atrium,” adds Mike, a McGill graduate (MBA, ’74) and member of the MUHC Board of Directors. “The acoustics should be wonderful!”

Christine Steele, a longtime volunteer pianist at the Montreal General Hospital and a member of the Rendez-Vous Trio, has kindly agreed to play on Thursdays starting November 17, 2022. Christine will share an eclectic mix of English, French and Irish songs as well as light classical and jazz pieces. Enjoy the music on November 17 and 24, December 8 and 15 from noon to 1 p.m.

A calendar of players is being compiled for additional informal lunch hour concerts. Anyone interested in performing is invited to contact wafa.saad [at] muhc.mcgill.ca or tania.estephan [at] muhc.mcgill.ca

Enjoy the music!
