An eminent physician and researcher shares her personal journey and challenges through half a century of brain imaging innovations

On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the Brain Repair and Integrative Neuroscience (BRaIN) Program hosted an afternoon tea event at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC).

The honored guest was BRaIN Program Associate Investigator and Order of Canada recipient Dr. Raquel Del Carpio-O'Donovan. Attendees gathered to hear Dr. Del Carpio-O'Donovan’s fascinating insights into the evolution of brain imaging over the past fifty years, particularly at McGill, the MUHC and the RI-MUHC. She also discussed the challenges she overcame as a woman pursuing a career in medicine and scientific research. Dr. Rhian Touyz, Executive Director and Chief Scientific Officer of the RI-MUHC, gave an introduction highlighting Dr. Del Carpio-O'Donovan's impact on the research community over the course of her illustrious career.

Attendees were treated to a delightful array of teas and refreshments. Lively discussions echoed through the halls long after the presentation concluded, as trainees, researchers and colleagues shared their appreciation of the advancements in brain imaging and neuroscience presented by Dr. Del Carpio-O’Donovan.
