At its Scientific Day on March 17, the Réseau de recherche en santé de populations du Québec (RRSPQ) awarded the prix du chercheur émérite (researcher emeritus award) to Dr. Michael S. Kramer.

A pediatrician by training, Dr. Kramer has held prestigious salary awards for research throughout his career. Notably, he has been a National Health Research Scholar and Scientist of Health Canada’s National Health Research and Development Program, a chercheur-boursier senior (senior research scholar) of the Fonds de la recherche en santé du Québec (FRSQ), and a Distinguished Investigator of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). He has been principal investigator of many large multicentre observational epidemiologic studies and randomized trials in the field of maternal and child health.

Dr. Kramer’s research interests have included the child health effects of breastfeeding, population surveillance of maternal and infant health, and the early-life origins of adult chronic diseases. His research has led to major changes in public health policy and clinical practice and has had an important impact on population health in Canada and worldwide.

The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is proud to count Dr. Kramer among its most distinguished members. Although retired from McGill, he remains a senior scientist in the Child Health and Human Development Program at the RI-MUHC and is the former director of its Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation.
