Congratulations to each of the following RI-MUHC researchers!

Alan Barkun and Donald Sheppard received the Staff Research Award from the Department of Medicine, McGill University.

James Brophy received the Gold Review Recognition Award from the journal Circulation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology in recognition of high quality and timely reviews of submitted manuscripts.

Phil Gold, a longtime former member of the RI-MUHC, was promoted to Grand officier, the highest rank of the Ordre national du Québec. He also received an honourary doctorate from the University of British Columbia recognizing his “extraordinary contributions as a physician, teacher, leader and humanitarian.” Learn more

Laurie Hendren, John Kildea and Tarek Hijal developed Opal, a patient empowerment app awarded the prestigious Coup de coeur des ministres honour at Les Prix d’excellence du réseau de la santé et des services sociaux. Learn more

Nada Jabado received the 2019 Pediatric Academic Leadership–Clinician Investigator Award from the Pediatric Chairs of Canada for her outstanding leadership in developing environments that foster opportunity for child and youth health research. Learn more 

José Morais is a leader of the Dementia Education Program community workshops, which received the Gold Medal Award from the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education for Best Community Outreach Initiative. Dr. Morais leads this initiative in collaboration with Alzheimer's Care Consultant and Facilitator Mrs. Claire Webster and with the Steinberg Centre for Simulation and Interactive Learning. The workshops aim to educate and support family caregivers who are looking after a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia-related illnesses. Learn more

Louise Pilote was appointed to the new Scientific Advisory Committee on Health Products for Women, Government of Canada. She is one of ten experts chosen to address gender imbalance behind regulatory decisions on medical devices and drugs. Learn more

Donald Sheppard received the David Johnston Faculty & Staff Award from the McGill Alumni Association for leading highly collaborative research efforts to tackle grand challenges in infections and immunity. Learn more

Évelyne Vinet received the 50th Anniversary Young Investigator Award at the Laurentian Rheumatology Conference in Estérel, Quebec, where she presented her work on “Lupus: a case of female discrimination.” Dr. Vinet also received the Department of Medicine Early Career Staff Research Award from McGill University. Learn more

Davinia Withington received the Dr. R.A. Gordon Research Award from the Canadian Anesthesiologist Association for her study, “Does prolonged sedation during mechanical ventilation for acute respiratory illness affect neurodevelopment in previously healthy infants? The PICU Follow-Up Neurodevelopment (PIC-FUN) Study.”
