Research Focus

My research focuses on the identification of genetic variants underlying Mendelian disorders using next-generation sequencing and associated bioinformatics tools. I am particularly interested in postzygotic variants (mutations in the genetic code occurring at some point after fertilization) in the context of developmental anomalies, with a special focus on mosaic disorders involving the skin. In the last few years, we have identified several genes mutated in neurological disorders, developmental syndromes, and mosaic skin disorders. My lab is also interested in translating next-generation sequencing methods into new diagnostic tests, in close collaboration with the Molecular Genetics Laboratory of the MUHC. Our ultimate goal is to improve clinical care, molecular diagnosis, genetic counselling, and treatment of rare genetic diseases.
