Research Focus

My research focuses on the fundamental biology of acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) stem cells in pediatric and adult patients. My laboratory aims to spearhead the development of new therapeutics for childhood AML, a type of cancer in which approximately 55% of young patients still lose their battle to survive despite aggressive therapy. My research in adult leukemia has resulted in characterization of the tightly linked biology of normal and cancerous blood stem cells, and in the development of leukemia stem cell gene signatures that predict patient survival. I am now applying this unique expertise and approach to the study of pediatric leukemia.
