Metabolic Disorders and Complications (MeDiC) Program

The Metabolic Disorders and Complications (MeDiC) Program at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) integrates outstanding basic science, clinical and evaluative researchers who share the goal of developing new diagnostic tools, treatments and health policies for common and chronic metabolic disorders.

Obesity, diabetes and osteoporosis, along with their complications, including kidney failure, heart disease, fatty liver/cirrhosis, dementia and stroke, are diseases that together affect more than one in three Canadians.

The MeDiC Program unites basic, clinical, population health and outcomes research experts to tackle these problems across the lifespan in a multidisciplinary way, employing our state-of-the-art facilities at the Centre for Translational Biology, the Centre for Innovative Medicine and the Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation.

Canadian Multicentre Osteoporosis Study (CaMos) logo

The Canadian Multicentre Osteoporosis Study (CaMos) assesses the burden of osteoporosis and fracture in Canadian women and men, measuring health and economic consequences and identifying factors leading to improved diagnosis and prevention.

Centre for Bone and Periodontal Research logo

The Centre for Bone and Periodontal Research supports research on arthritis, osteoporosis, metastatic and metabolic bone disease and developmental disorders of the skeleton and oral cavity.

Quebec Network for Research in Aging logo

The Quebec Network for Research in Aging increases knowledge about the biological, clinical, populational, social, and societal aspects of aging, to promote successful aging and to improve health care and services provided to the elderly.

Genome Canada Transplant Consortium (GCTC) logo

The Genome Canada Transplant Consortium (GCTC) supports innovation in organ transplant, such as increasing organ supply, reducing rejection, improving immunosuppressive drugs, and monitoring health outcomes for transplant recipients.

MUHC Human Islet Transplant Laboratory (MHITL) logo

The MUHC Human Islet Transplant Laboratory (MHITL) provides highly purified preparations of insulin-producing Islets of Langerhans for novel clinical treatments of type 1 diabetics, as well as for research on all forms of diabetes.

McGill Research Centre for Cannabis logo

The McGill Research Centre for Cannabis incorporates multidisciplinary research in plant science, production and processing, disease models and preclinical research, drug development and clinical trials, as well as social implications and health and economic impact studies.

About the RI-MUHC

The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and healthcare research centre. The Institute, which is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine of McGill University, is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) – an academic health centre located in Montreal, Canada, that has a mandate to focus on complex care within its community. The RI-MUHC supports over 460 researchers and close to 1,300 research trainees devoted to a broad spectrum of fundamental, clinical and health outcomes research at the Glen and the Montreal General Hospital sites of the MUHC.
