The Cardiopulmonary Functional Testing Platform in the McConnell Centre for Innovative Medicine is dedicated to clinical research in heart and lung health.

Part of the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), the Cardiopulmonary Functional Testing Platform is centrally located at the Glen site of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). This platform is equipped for a wide range of functional testing, and the flexible space can be adjusted to suit the needs of a variety of patients and clinical research projects. Our fully qualified staff is available upon request to support your clinical research in cardiopulmonary function.

Equipment available in the Cardiopulmonary Functional Testing Platform includes:

Complete pulmonary function testing capabilities, such as spirometry, body plethysmography, impulse oscillometry, nitrogen washout, diffusion capacity, lung compliance, lung pressures, aerosol provocation testing and much more.
Cardiopulmonary exercise testing equipment, which can be used with a treadmill or cycle ergometer and integrates gas exchange and ventilation, electrocardiogram, blood pressure, and pulse oximetry measures, with the option to add on a non-invasive cardiac output measure.
Echocardiography equipment uses sound waves to obtain an image of the heart and is set up with a stress echo bed and ergometer to perform the echocardiogram at rest or during exercise.
