Experimental Operating Room

Experimental Operating Room, McConnell Centre for Innovative Medicine, RI-MUHC

The McConnell Centre for Innovative Medicine is equipped with a fully functional Experimental Operating Room. Situated in the Royal Victoria Hospital at the Glen site of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), the Experimental Operating Room is dedicated to clinical research and can accommodate a variety of simulation activities as well as human subjects in the context of clinical trials.

The Experimental Operating Room contains state-of-the-art clinical research equipment, including

  • a one-of-a-kind Stryker CAE integrated audiovisual recording and editing system with teleconference capabilities,

  • video recording and audio capture points, permitting entire surgeries to be viewed remotely in real time as well as recorded and stored for later use, and

  • six (6) cameras, allowing virtually every aspect of a procedure to be displayed on one of eight (8) viewing monitors available in the room.

All is coordinated through an attached control/viewing area. The operating room is leaded for imaging procedures and can be used for both simulated and live patients.

Clinical research services and expertise include project management, quality assurance, training in clinical research Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and technical assistance with data collection and video editing.

Contact Experimental Operating Room staff to learn more or schedule a tour of these premises together with the Simulation Laboratory.
