Rare respiratory diseases: hope, research and the future
Being diagnosed with a rare respiratory disease, be it bronchopulmonary dysplasia, lymphangioleiomyomatosis, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis, or any other disease, can be extremely challenging. There is often a lack of disease understanding and even treatment options. Today, increased awareness and advocacy for these diseases has led to major advances in research and clinical care.
