Research Focus

My research advances integrative approaches to mental health that bridge cognitive neuroscience with cultural, social, experiential, and critical dimensions of psychiatric care. I’ve developed cultural eco-social systems approaches in research, clinical practice, and training, translating complex systems thinking into practical tools that treat humans as complex adaptive systems embedded in multiple environments. Central to my work is how people experience themselves, construct meaning through narratives, and develop selves, identities over time and how these insights can inform person-centered care. I apply this lens to (de)prescribing practices, mechanisms of withdrawal experiences, and the ways clinical narratives shape youth identity formation. I am also developing a phenomenological psychiatric framework to assess fine-grained changes in self-experience for clinical and contemplative science research. With Inuit youth in northern Quebec, I conduct community-engaged, arts-based suicide intervention and mixed-methods research on re-engagement in life, cultural wayfinding, and eco-social understandings of suicidality, agency, and resilience.
