Research Focus
My research focuses on better understanding how the heart function impacts newborn health in the context of various conditions, in the immediate post-natal life and during pediatric and adolescent growth, into adulthood. More specifically, I am interested in better understanding how heart performance impacts the life of premature newborns and those with congenital heart or lung malformations. Most of my research is centred on the use of echocardiography, which uses ultrasound for live evaluation of the heart. I further analyze these images using special software programs that permit better understanding of how the heart muscle deforms over time, and put that analysis in perspective of the overall patient's condition.
