Research Focus

My research focuses on measuring and improving quality of patient recovery and other outcomes of abdominal surgery; optimization of perioperative care processes; patient activation; and technology-enabled assessment and improvement of operative performance. My patient-centred research group performs clinical trials evaluating the effectiveness of interventions including minimally invasive surgery, enhanced recovery pathways, and mobile applications on improving recovery after abdominal surgery. I am internationally recognized for work implementing and evaluating Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) programs.
