Dr. Ariane Marelli, senior scientist and leader of the Cardiovascular Health Across the Lifespan Program at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI‑MUHC), received the 2021 John J. Day MD Award of Excellence from the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Quebec. Presented as a bequest, this award of excellence in research is granted annually to the researcher from McGill University who received the highest evaluation in the grant-in-aid competition in cardiovascular research.

“This is such an important recognition of the lifespan research we are doing here at the RI-MUHC, describing novel life-long trajectories in cardiovascular disease,” says Dr. Marelli. Her winning project is titled “Heart Failure Trajectory Along the Care Continuum for Congenital Heart Disease Patients Across the Lifespan.”

Dr. Marelli is a professor of medicine at McGill University and associate director, Research and Academic Affairs, for Cardiology at the McGill University Health Centre. She is also an associate member of the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health.

Dr. Marelli’s research interests involve the impact of the changing epidemiology of congenital heart disease on health services delivery, quality and policy. With research tools including large administrative databases and electronic health records, she has created and manages a population-based congenital heart disease database that covers over 100,000 patients with congenital heart disease from birth to old age in Quebec, from 1983 to 2010. She conducts research at the Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation at the RI-MUHC.

Congratulations, Dr. Marelli!
