The Institute is pleased to announce that Iulia Iatan, MD, PhD, clinician-scientist in the Cardiovascular Health Across the Lifespan Program, has been selected as one of the 2025 Cardiovascular Clinical Trialists (CVCT) Research Scholars by Women As One in partnership with the Global CVCT Forum. Sponsored by Pfizer, the program recognizes outstanding women physicians who are emerging leaders in clinical trials, an area where women remain underrepresented.

Now in its third year, the CVCT Research Scholars Awards aim to elevate the visibility, influence and leadership of women in clinical trials. The program supports career development through advanced education, mentorship and international networking, while fostering professional connections and creating pathways for long-term success in academic and industry-led research.

Dr. Iatan was selected for her growing impact in cardiovascular research, her commitment to advancing evidence-based care, and her strong potential to contribute to international clinical trial leadership. As a Research Scholar, she participated in faculty-level programming at the 2025 Global CVCT Forum, including advanced training, scientific sessions, panelist participation, and networking with senior trialists, regulators, academic partners and industry leaders. She was chosen from a competitive pool of 13 nominees representing 9 countries through a rigorous selection process led by a review committee of 5 internationally recognized physician-scientists.

"Dr. Iatan's recognition as a Women in Clinical Trials Research Scholar reflects her exceptional potential as a leader in cardiovascular research," said Rhian Touyz, Executive Director and Chief Scientific Officer at The Institute. "Her work aligns deeply with our 2030 Vision to advance precision health and improve outcomes across the life course, and we are proud to see her contributing to global research excellence."

Dr. Iatan's research focuses on cardiovascular prevention, using genetic, clinical, and population-based data to improve early detection and management of individuals at increased risk. Her work aims to reduce the burden of premature atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and improve cardiovascular health across Canada. Her selection as a 2025 Research Scholar Award Winner positions her among a distinguished international cohort of early-career leaders committed to shaping the future of cardiovascular clinical trials.

Congratulations Dr. Iatan!
