Congratulations to Anne-Julie Tessier, RD, PhD, formerly a trainee in the Metabolic Disorders and Complications Program at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC)! She recently received two major academic prizes, the Governor General’s Gold Medal and Gordon A. Maclachlan Prize, for her doctoral work in human nutrition. At McGill University, only two gold medals are presented each year on behalf of the Governor General of Canada. They recognize the most outstanding graduating master's or doctoral students, one in human sciences and one in natural sciences, based on academic merit. The Maclachlan Prize is awarded annually by McGill’s Graduate Program Studies to the most outstanding graduate receiving a PhD degree during the academic year in any biological or health sciences discipline.

In an additional honour, the Canadian Nutrition Society (CNS) has awarded Anne-Julie Tessier the 2022 CNS PhD Dissertation Award for Outstanding Research. She will be formally honoured at the CNS 2022 annual conference award banquet. Tessier accomplished the work honoured by these awards as a doctoral student supervised by RI-MUHC scientist Stéphanie Chevalier, RD, PhD.

Notably, Anne-Julie Tessier is also first author of a publication accepted in JAMA Network Open, titled “Association of low muscle mass with cognitive function during a 3-year follow-up among adults aged 65 to 86 years in the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging.”

“I am now studying metabolomics, nutrition and healthy aging in three of the large Harvard cohorts to become an expert and independent researcher in the field,” she says. “As the co-founder of Keenoa, a mobile intelligent food diary, I also continue to develop and study the use of cutting-edge technology for dietary assessment.”

Please join us in congratulating Anne-Julie Tessier, and wishing her the best at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where she has begun a postdoctoral fellowship since obtaining her doctorate from McGill University in February 2022.
