Appointment of Dr. Bruce Mazer as Deputy Executive Director/Deputy Chief Scientific Officer (DCSO) of the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) and Head of Child Health Research at the Montreal Children's Hospital (MCH) of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). Following a search process run by the RI-MUHC and the MCH and after interviewing 3 outstanding candidates, it is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Bruce Mazer, MD, PhD, to the position of Deputy Executive Director/Deputy Chief Scientific Officer (DCSO) of the RI-MUHC and Head of Child Health Research at the MUHC, effective April 1, 2015. |

In this role, Dr. Mazer will build on the excellent foundation laid by the former Deputy Director and Head of Child Health Research, Dr. Jacquetta Trasler. We take this opportunity to thank Dr. Trasler for her exemplary service to the pediatric research community and her efforts in all steps that led us to our new facilities at the Glen.
With a career spanning more than 25 years, Dr. Mazer brings invaluable scientific, clinical and administrative expertise to this mandate. Dr Mazer arrived at McGill from Columbia University in 1980 and obtained his Medical degree in 1984 and went on to complete his residency in Pediatrics at the Montreal Children's Hospital. Between 1987 and 1991, Dr Mazer completed a clinical and research Fellowship in Allergy/Immunology from the National Jewish Center for Immunology and Respiratory Medicine, Denver, Colorado. Today, Dr Mazer, is a Full Professor of Pediatrics in the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University, a Clinician-Scientist at the RI-MUHC, an Attending Physician at the Montreal Children's Hospital, Division of Allergy and Immunology. Since 1999, Dr Mazer has also served as Director of the largest Pediatric Allergy and Immunology Academic practice in Canada at the MUHC, and is also a principal investigator at the Meakins Christie Laboratories, at the Research Institute of the MUHC and McGill University. Dr. Mazer has been very active at the RI-MUHC as Chair of various committees including the Equipment Competition, Bridge Funding, Evaluation of Grant Reviews, and has served as Chair of the Research Council since 2008. He was awarded a William Dawson Scholarship at McGill University and was a Chercheur Nationale of the Fonds de Recherche du Québec en Santé. As DCSO of the RI-MUHC and Head of Child Health Research at the MCH of the MUHC, Dr Mazer will provide leadership and direction in the promotion of the child health research at the MUHC. He will be responsible for the clinical and technological support of child health research activity and training and will also provide leadership for the RI-MUHC as the second in command to the Executive Director and CSO of the RI-MUHC. Working closely with the Executive Director and CSO, Dr Mazer will be responsible for the development and integration of the long-term plan of the child health research of the RI-MUHC.
