The Glen site of the McGill University Health Centre covers 43 acres of land at the heart of three vibrant neighbourhoods: Notre-Dame-de-Grace, Sud-Ouest and Westmount. The first building completed in the fall of 2014 was the five-storey Research Institute located on the south-east side of the site.

The Research Institute is comprised of two towers flanking a central atrium. It houses open-bench, flexible laboratories and centrally located, shared equipment rooms.

While the Research Institute's laboratories are at the heart of fundamental or pre-clinical research, clinical research takes place on the fourth floor of the hospital complex spanning the pediatric and adult hospitals.

The Research Institute occupies a total area of 42,000 m2 (450,000 ft2) and is linked to the rest of the hospital by a suspended walkway.
