- Researchers honored with King Charles III's Coronation Medal for outstanding achievements
In recognition of their contributions to the understanding of neurological and respiratory disease, four members of The Institute been awarded the King Charles III’s Coronation Medal

Four venerable members of The Institute community have been awarded the King Charles III’s Coronation Medal. Established in May 2023 to commemorate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, the Medal recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to Canada, their province or territory, region, or an achievement abroad that brings benefit or honour to the country.
Congratulations to Jean Bourbeau, Angela Genge, Larry Lands and Ronald Postuma, recipients of this well-deserved honour.

Jean Bourbeau, MD, FRCP(C)
Dr. Jean Bourbeau is a Senior Scientist in the Translational Research in Respiratory Diseases Program and conducts research at the Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (CORE) at The Institute. He is also a respirologist at the Montreal Chest Institute of the McGill University Health Centre.
Dr. Bourbeau has transformed the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in Canada. He is the lead author of Canadian COPD guidelines, and is a strong advocate for patient self-management, including the creation of the Living Well with COPD program.
Angela Genge, MD, FRCP(C)
Dr. Angela Genge is the newly appointed Director of Clinical Research and the Centre for Innovative Medicine (CIM) at The Institute and has been the Director of the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) clinic at The Neuro (Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital) since 1998. She has also been the Executive Director of the ALS Global Center of Excellence in Patient Care since 2014.
Dr. Genge is an international leader in clinical trial design and development for rare neurological conditions with an emphasis on ALS and motor neuron disease (MND).
Larry Lands, MD
Dr. Larry Lands is a Senior Scientist in the Translational Research in Respiratory Diseases Program and the Director of the Respiratory Medicine / Pulmonology Division at the Montreal Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Lands is internationally recognized for his work on modulation of inflammation and exercise limitation in cystic fibrosis. He leads studies aimed at bolstering immune defenses and functional ability in both children and adults living with chronic lung diseases. Dr. Lands also volunteers as a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Lung Association and is an advisor to the Association's research programs.
Ronald Postuma, MD
Dr. Ron Postuma is a member of the Brain Repair and Integrative Neuroscience (BRaIN) Program at The Institute, a neurologist at The Neuro (Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital), and Director of the Division of Neurology at the McGill University Health Centre.
His research interests focus on Parkinson's disease, particularly the detection of early stages of disease and the impact of non-motor symptoms on disease subtype and prognosis. He co-directs the National Residents Course in movement disorders, is an executive member of the Movement Disorders Society’s education committee, and co-chairs the MDS Task Force on the definition of Parkinson's disease.
Congratulations to these exceptional individuals, whose dedication and achievements are truly deserving of this prestigious recognition.
