null Nine Institute Labs Earn Highest Rating in My Green Lab Certification

A landmark sustainability milestone for The Institute’s research community

Nine research laboratories at The Institute have achieved the highest rating — Green — through the My Green Lab Certification program, the global standard for laboratory sustainability best practices. The certified labs span four of The Institute’s research programs: the Brain Repair and Integrative Neuroscience Program (BRaIN), the Cardiovascular Health Across the Lifespan Program (CHAL), the Infectious Diseases and Immunity in Global Health Program (IDIGH), the Metabolic Disorders and Complications Program (MeDiC) and the Translational Research in Respiratory Diseases Program (RESP).

The certified laboratories are:

My Green Lab Certification recognizes laboratories that have made meaningful, measurable improvements to reduce their environmental footprint. Achieving the Green level — the highest available — reflects sustained effort, rigorous implementation of best practices and a collective commitment to responsible, efficient and environmentally conscious research.

The certification process was coordinated by The Institute’s INPACT Sustainable Development Initiative, led by Ourania Tsatas.

“Seeing nine laboratories achieve the highest Green rating is incredibly rewarding. This result reflects months of dedicated work, genuine commitment from each lab team and a shared belief that sustainable research practices make a real difference. We are proud of what this community has accomplished together,” she expressed.

A growing movement at The Institute

This achievement builds momentum for sustainability across The Institute’s research community. Three additional laboratories have already committed to beginning the certification process and eight further spots remain available for labs wishing to participate in future cohorts. The Institute is actively encouraging more research teams to take part in the initiative.

“Supporting our researchers in building more sustainable work environments is a priority for our team. This certification is a testament to what is possible when technical expertise and scientific ambition work hand in hand. We look forward to welcoming even more labs into this journey,” noted Rami Tohme, Director of Technical Services at The Institute.

Looking ahead

The Institute plans to present My Green Lab Certification certificates to all participating laboratories and will continue to support the growth of its sustainability program. By joining a global network of thousands of certified laboratories, The Institute’s teams are contributing to a broader movement toward responsible science.
