Research Focus

My research is focused on improving diagnostic tools and care for infectious diseases in remote and low resource settings (LRS), including in Northern Indigenous communities in Canada. This is done through the development and field validation of diagnostics, implementation research, and work at the regulatory and policy level (e.g., as Technical Adviser to the World Health Organization (WHO) for prequalification of diagnostics). In addition, a core activity of our group involves optimizing the use of current diagnostic laboratory approaches and newer innovations in LRS clinical bacteriology, aiming to contain the spread of antimicrobial resistance.
