Established in 2024, a partnership between the Azrieli Research Centre of CHU Sainte-Justine and The Institute has led to the creation of the Fonds de la recherche de la Fondation J. Armand Bombardier en santé mère-enfant (“J. Armand Bombardier Foundation Research Fund in Mother and Child Health”). This initiative was made possible through a generous donation from the Fondation J. Armand Bombardier, in collaboration with the Fondation CHU Sainte-Justine and The Montreal Children's Hospital Foundation.

The competition aims to provide seed funding for innovative collaborative projects between researchers from both institutions in maternal, fetal, and child health.

This year, three outstanding projects were funded as part of the very first edition of this competition. Congratulations to the winning teams!

  1. Exploring the role of the complement system in focal segmental glomerulosclerosis in nephrotic syndrome in children

Principal researchers: Dr. Alexandra Cambier (CHU Sainte-Justine) and Dr. Mallory L. Downie (The Institute)
  2. Identification and impact of novel CLDN gene variants in pediatric-onset inflammatory bowel disease

Principal investigators: Dr. Laurence Chapuy (CHU Sainte-Justine) and Prof. Aimee Ryan (The Institute)
  3. Study of severe maternal morbidity and socioeconomic disparity as determinants of neurodevelopmental disorders in children.

Principal investigators: Sarah Lippé (CHU Sainte-Justine) and Prof. Ugochinyere Vivian Ukah (The Institute)
