“It is indeed an honour to receive this award. Throughout my career, I have harnessed the power of behavioural science to improve communication, inspire positive health behaviours, and ensure our research focuses on what matters most to people living with rheumatic diseases,” says Dr. Bartlett, who is a psychologist. “Although our treatments have seen remarkable advancements, this serves as a powerful reminder: by addressing the behavioural and psychosocial aspects of rheumatic diseases, we pave the way for better outcomes and enhanced quality of life for all our patients.”

Dr. Bartlett has been at the forefront of patient engagement and patient-centred outcomes research in rheumatology for many years. She is widely known for her research targeting health behaviours, including diet, exercise and treatment adherence in people with rheumatic disease, to improve health outcomes and quality of life. At The Institute, she conducts research as part of the Brain Repair and Integrative Neuroscience (BRaIN) Program and Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation. She is also a professor of Medicine at McGill University and takes an active part in Arthritis Research Canada.

For the past decade, a growing focus of Dr. Bartlett’s research has been on developing new methods to include patients and other stakeholders as partners in clinical research and enhancing the measurement of patient-reported outcomes. Her research has been continuously funded since 1998 by the National Institutes of Health, the Arthritis Foundation, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, among other sources.

Dr. Bartlett received the ARP Master Award at the American College of Rheumatology annual scientific conference, Convergence 2024, in Washington, DC (U.S.), on November 15.
