Histopathology Histopathology

Accelerating disease research via specimen processing and visualization of biological structures and molecules within tissues

The Histopathology Platform is one of the Centre for Translational Biology (CTB) Technology Platforms at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC). It is fully equipped with state-of-the-art automated instruments that provide access to technologies that go beyond standard histological evaluations.

In addition to offering routine processing, embedding, sectioning and staining of paraffin and frozen tissues, the facility houses a fully automated immunohistochemistry (IHC) system enabling simultaneous protocols and increased efficiency.

The platform is also equipped with a Laser Capture Microdissection (LCM) system for the selective isolation of a small number of cells from heterogeneous tissues and an automated digital slide scanning and image analysis system.

Applications and services

Below are typical applications performed in the Histopathology Platform:

  • Tissue processing and embedding
  • Tissue sectioning and staining
  • Immunohistochemistry (IHC)
  • Laser capture microdissection
