Dana Kablawi, MD, a trainee at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), has been selected for the prestigious Raymond T. Chung Emerging Liver Scholar Award by the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD). This award is designed to promote the study of hepatology among exceptional residents who have the potential for a career in academic medicine and are interested in specialties such as adult or pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, hepatopathology, surgery, or GI radiology. Dr. Kablawi will receive the award at the annual meeting of the ASSLD in San Diego, California (U.S.), on November 15.

“I am truly honored to receive this award from AASLD,” says Dr. Kablawi, who is a second-year medical resident in the McGill Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. “As a participant in the Emerging Liver Scholars Program, I am excited to have the opportunity to connect with leading experts and fellow trainees in hepatology. I look forward to gaining valuable insights through single-topic symposiums and special interest groups focused on emerging topics in metabolic dysfunction-associate steatotic liver disease and transplant hepatology. I am confident the experience I will gain through this program will support my pursuit of a career in academic medicine, where I hope to contribute to improving the lives of patients at risk of liver disease.”

Since July 2022, Dr. Kablawi has been under the mentorship of Giada Sebastiani, MD, a Senior Scientist in the Infectious Diseases and Immunity in Global Health Program at the RI-MUHC. Even with her busy clinical schedule, Dr. Kablawi has achieved an impressive research record, with 10 peer-reviewed publications and contributions to 47 conference abstracts.

“Dana has demonstrated exceptional dedication and innovation in her research on non-invasive diagnostic methods for vulnerable populations at high risk for liver disease, particularly among individuals living with HIV and IBD, earning her this well-deserved prestigious award," says Dr. Sebastiani.

Congratulations, Dr. Kablawi!
